Though born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Cuban parents who had fled the Castro regime, Luis Viera, an attorney, has lived in the Tampa Bay area virtually all of his life.

Luis graduated from the University of South Florida in 2000 and Stetson University College of Law  in 2003, and practices in the area of general civil litigation and torts.

Luis is active in the Hillsborough County Bar Association and in his local community.  He co-chairs the Hillsborough County Bar Association Diversity Committee and was named a Rising Star by the Florida Super Lawyers magazine. He also is active in the Tampa Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Tampa Bay Hispanic Bar Association. And in 2011, he was appointed to the City of Tampa Civil Service Review Board.

Luis’ oldest brother, Juan, has a developmental disability, which greatly influenced Luis to become involved in the community of persons with special needs. He is president of the Lawyers Autism Awareness Foundation, which provides assistance and grants to families caring for children with autism.  Since 2005, he has served on the Board of Trustees of Hillsborough Achievement Resource Center (HARC) and presently sits on the Advisory Board of the Hillsborough County Best Buddies Chapter.

Luis has written for a number of publications, including the Tampa Tribune and the Hillsborough County Bar Association Lawyer Magazine, on such as religious faith, persons with special needs, history and politics.

To Luis, being politically and socially active, whether one is a Republican or Democrat, is a natural expression of one’s love of country and concern for one’s community and fellow man.
